Introduction to GIA Drilling ToolsIt should be at least 45.5 mm. For a new 140.0 mm drill bit, the size can vary by 0.5 - 1.5 mm (depending on the size of the drill bit and the alloy). This means, for example, a range from 140 mm to 141.5 mm. This is because the alloy wears out rapidly initially. The key consideration is that the diameter of a new drill bit for a borehole larger than 45.0 mm may vary depending on drilling conditions and the formation being drilled.
